1. In grammar, the way verbs are modified to show whether an activity is ongoing or complete.
For example, compare ‘had eaten’ (completed) in “I had eaten dinner, when they arrived last night” with “was eating” (ongoing) in “I was eating dinner, when they arrived last night”. English = aspect
